We do 2 shows per year with all of our students. One is our Winter/Holiday show in mid-Dec. This a low-key show for the kids to have fun showing off what they've learned in the 1st part of the dance year. Its a party atmosphere. Costumes are made using street clothes, party dresses, or dance clothes that can be used in class after the show in order to keep costs down for the parents, but still offer the kids something nice to wear on their "special day". Info will be handed out mid-October and will include everything you need to know. Costume fees will be due just before Thanksgiving.
Our big recital/performance is held approx the 3rd weekend of June. Since it's the student's chance to show off 10 months worth of learning, its a much bigger deal than the Dec. show. Costumes are professionally made and run about $60-$80 per dance. This depends on the age of the student (and their size as in a child size or an adult size), and whether this is a costume just for the recital or as in our competition groups where it is to be worn multiple times and judged in competition. Info. on your specific class will come out mid-Feb. Costume payments will be due just before spring break in May.
PARTICIPATION IN ANY PERFORMANCES ARE NOT MANDATORY. We make every effort to keep any student from feeling "left out" in classif they aren't going to be in the show.
Performing Group/Competition Teams
Currently, we have 2 groups of performers & competitors. Students range in age from 7 through 18 yrs old. These are students with a keen desire to dance, perform and compete more than just the 2 all-school shows each year. Participants are chosen by Miss Deborah, Miss Tara and the other instructors. If your student is interested in being considered for one of these teams, please talk to Miss Tara about the specifics, requirements, etc.
" My daughter danced with DMSD for the last 13 years, she started when she was 2 years old. It has been great confidence builder and has helped her become an amazing athlete. Many of her coaches have commented on how fit and strong she is and it is all because of dance. She was able to assist several classes and pass on to the new lil dancers her love of dance. Dance is always part of my daughters life and will always be in some way. She still continues to dance when she can get to a class and is always made to feel so welcome. The teachers at DMSD have become family to her and will always mean so much to her". --Veronica Olsen
"Thank you so much to all the incredible dance instructors for teaching my daughter so much more than dance. Not only has she learned tap, tumbling, jazz, ballet & hip hop from wonderful instructors, she has also gained confidence and self esteem in herself." - Leslie Moore
"The recital was amazing! I am so appreciative of your handling of the event. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it. Its obvious it is a labor of love for you & your instructors." - Anonymous
